players for the urbandale j- hawks are on the sidelines right now with injuries. two of them have had concussions this season, and it's really depleted their depth. it's why they're paying extra close attention to that bill, as iowa lawmakers begin discussing it. you could call eileen mueller a big fan of basketball. nats cheering she'll sit in the stands pretty much every jv and varsity game for the chance to see her daughter, kat, on the court. but right now, kat's not playing. eileen mueller, mother: "during the game, kind of knocked around a little bit, and she was dribbling down the court, and her eyes kind of went fuzzy and she basically collapsed." kat's sitting out friday night's game with a concussion, but that's not the only concern for eileen. eileen mueller, mother: "it took them about 20 minutes to even get ice for my daughter. and you know, i'm thinking maybe cool her down a little bit, then as we're sitting there waiting, finally the boys' freshman coach came over to take a look at her to see what was going on." kat's teammate jordan henderson remembers a similar wait after getting a concussion at softball practice. it's why she's hoping a bill would put more trainers on the sidelines. jordan henderson,

"i get it that it's hard because we do have multiple games going on at the same time and we only have one trainer, but i think it'd be better to have multiple trainers." johnston athletic director gary ross says schools in general are paying more attention to head injuries now than ever before. gary ross, johnston ad: "we have the luxury i guess you'd say of having a trainer on site to talk about all our varsity home events i guess you'd say of having a trainer on site to talk about all our varsity home events that we have." but ross says a lot of schools, especially rural ones, might not be able to do that so easily. rural ones, might not be able to do that so easily. gary ross, johnston ad: "i'd say that's the no. 1 concern, even more than say budget is the availability of trainers for all the different events that they have." and with an emphasis on player safety, mueller hopes that something else even worse than a concussion doesn't catch everyone off guard. eileen mueller, mother: "kids could blow out an acl or do something much more invasive, get hurt, and there was no one on site to even take care of them." jacob: maybe the biggest issue of all for school districts on this bill is how much money it could cost them. so far, no one at
